OmegaChea was co-founded by a team of researchers (Shivani Garg, Basil Nikolau, Marna Yandeau-Nelson, and Peter Keeling) from Center for Biorenewable Chemicals, Iowa State University who are highly interested in developing sustainable, bio-based technologies.
OmegaChea is a spin-off from the NSF-funded Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals (CBiRC) at Iowa State University (ISU) where the core technology was developed. The core business concept and commercial feasibility was explored and developed within a 2012 NSF Innovation Corps award made to the OmegaChea founders (Shivani Garg, Basil Nikolau and Peter Keeling).
OmegaChea has succeeded in attracting early phase funding that has supported initial research phases and an evaluation of the business opportunity for the OmegaChea concept. OmegaChea has been awarded NSF STTR Phase I award for proof-of-concept development.
